Matters of Judgment
Publication Design
Studies on judicial thought processes have been rare in India, Matters of Judgment is a study done with the judges of the Supreme Court and aims to take a small step in that direction in the context of the criminal justice system and the death penalty.
The content of the report highlights the contradictions these judges' opinions have, quite unanimously, between the objective analysis of the criminal justice system as being corrupt and the subjectivity of passing a death sentence as being a necessary constitutional device. We tried to bring out this contradiction through the concept of refraction.
